This is something I wrote back in November. It is kind of geared towards guys but what can I say ... I'm Rob and I'm a guy.
Shawn is in MI/IN on her first book tour. Me ... home with the kids and scrambling to put a couple proposals together for work.
I just realized something ...God gave me a need. Want to know what I mean. Then read on.
I need a need
Let me be circuitous.
Are you a new christian? I mean, do you walk around each day with the palpable knowledge that your sins have been forgiven. Can you recall the newness of your rebirth with fresh and vivid detail? I know Jesus is our Lord, but do we recall when more than anything he was our SAVIOR!
So many things are different in my world than the world Jesus lived. When Jesus walked the earth, man worked to survive. Whole communities would spend their waking hours to eke out a meager existence for themselves and their families. No blog time, no facebook, no cable, no golf/tennis/running, no journaling, no College Gameday or Monday Night Football.
No. None of those things. And free-time? That was called sleep and sabbath.
So, when Jesus spoke to the masses words like: You must give to receive. It was a big deal. The people who took such an outrageous action were not lessening their clothing budget or shortening their vacation time. They were giving up food. When they gave up time, they were lessening the time they had to provide for themselves and their families.
I read something yesterday that really struck me.
In Mark 16 we read: After Jesus said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation...And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new toungues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well"...Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it."
The thing that struck me was that in order for the disciples to experience the Lord working in their lives and confirming with great signs and wonders, it was incumbent upon them to begin the task of preaching everywhere.
One follows the other. We act and Jesus confirms!
When we are in need, and despite our need we act on Jesus' behalf ...we open the door and beckon our Lord to enter our lives with power. When we, in the fullness of our lives, impoverish ourselves for Jesus' sake, we drive our Lord to work on our behalf. He becomes our Savior again.
Tired of the life in Christ that you are experiencing? Is your faith in a rut? In need of the spark of God's awesome power in your life?
Then begin the process!
Look out around your life and see how Jesus would like you to serve, to give, to aid AND THEN DO IT!! When we act JESUS WILL CONFIRM! And Be Our Awesome God and Saviour in a fresh, new way.
That's the power that I want to know! That is why I Need a Need today. To joyfully serve my King.
